How I’m creating my path into Fund Management: NOMADE PARTNERS

I’ve set up an ecosystem to measure my progress and process in Fund Management, it’s called Nomade Partners. So, here’s the plan:

- Reach out to more and more people; founders and investors, to learn how I can help in achieving their goals.

- Attend industry events. Such as: Demo Days, Investor/Founder Meetings

- Dive deep into feasibility and economics of innovative tech research

- Most importantly, have fun

There’s no prescribed method of getting into Fund Management, be it Venture Capital (VC), Growth Capital (GC) or Private Equity (PE). The industry is resting upon the shoulders of people who wouldn’t take no for an answer, who wouldn’t conform to the standards set out by others, rather they’d set their own standard and ventured on (pun intended).

It’s this sense of “dissent” almost, that has allowed big ideas to rise, flourish, change the course of history and shape the future. It’s impossible for me to finish this thought without talking about some of the most inspirational people in Venture Capital. Here are a few; Arlan Hamilton Founder at Backstage Capital, Pejman Nozad Founding Managing Partner at Pear VC, Bryce Roberts of Indie VC, Bilal Zubari at Lux Capital, Marcus Stroud of TXV Partners and Semil Shah of Haystack. Perhaps for another entry here on Medium, I’ll jot down a blurb on how they’ve inspired me, in the meantime feel free to look them up and see how they’re revolutionizing the industry.

So, what’s Nomade Partners?

Here’s my motto for Nomad(e) Partners — I believe the future is decentralized, it belongs to everyone and we all have a say in it. Our history as a modern civilization, is shaped by our curiosity, we’ve migrated far and wide to explore opportunities and look for solutions. Nomade — a nod to my immigrant background.

What do I have to offer, in return for the opportunity to be a part of something extraordinary?

Throughout my career, I’ve exclusively worked with small and growing businesses in the role of an accountant. Fortunately, I’ve had the opportunity to do more than just accounting, be it HR, IT, Marketing or Operations — I’ve always had the chance to contribute. Along the way I’ve learned about Startup Accounting, setting up and maintain accounting systems.

I realize not all technical founders have real-world experience in setting up accounting & finance systems and frankly it isn’t very high on the list of their priorities either. The Product or Service is the center of attention in a startup or a growing business and rightfully so.

A few ways I can add value:

I can help set up accounting systems, such as End of Month and End of Year Checklist, Reconciliation and Amortization schedules

I can help review and setup Financial Statements such as Profit & Loss Statements, Balance Sheet review and other periodic reports

If you have a retail business and sell directly to consumer, I might be able help in Sales Tax computation, filing and payment

Having been a part of different industries I can help in measuring, managing and presenting your industry specific metrics

Hiring and screening candidates can be quite a daunting task for most people, perhaps I can lend a hand in organizing this for your company

Connecting founders with investors (VC, GC and PE), aka Scouting

This is by no means an exhaustive list of things I can help with. Lets continue the conversation; here’s how to contact me:

What’s so special about Fund Management, why do I want to be a part of it?

Tons, there’s tons about the industry that’s remarkable. You truly get to be a part of the decision making process on how the future may look like, by funding projects and founders who are making positive social or environmental impact like Saildrone.

Fund Management isn’t just about financing, that’s merely half the battle, you get to help companies and the team in achieving greatness.

Frankly, more and more sensible people must have a seat at the table where decisions are made on which idea gets funded, promoted and how our future would/should look like. If not, we’ll have more companies like Fyre, Juicero and Theranos leading the way. Honestly the list is a mile long, if I were to list down every bad idea that got funding.

With that said, let’s shape the future by sensibly investing in it!
